| Systemic Mind/Body Medicine |
|
The science of Medicine, both Western and Eastern theories, have acknowledged that the mind and body are both responsible for illness.
We believe that integration of these medical models provides everyone with a comprehensive way to stay healthy.

Western medicine has coined the terminology "psychosomatic" illness to indicate the mind/body connection.
It is unfortunate that some interpret that as "it's all in your head".
Eastern medicine has always incorporated the term "mind" of the body in every cell, organ and system.
The "mind" in Eastern medicine is not necessarily the brain or emotional landscape of an individual.
It has always been a part of ever disease, imbalance and dysfunction.
It is global, an all encompassing characteristic in all people There is no separation of the mind and body in Eastern medicine.

There is no illness, imbalance or dysfunction without a mind component.
There is no mind imbalance without a physiologic predisposition.

People do not contract a disease overnight.
There are many PRE-disease signs and symptoms that don't show up on the radar of Western medicine.
Whereas, these pre-illness signs and symptoms are indicators to an Eastern medicine practitioner that there is a hidden "time bomb" of disease and it is our place to disarm that potential.
We believe it is best to get health care before the disease shows up, at the time when the slight discomforts and annoyances are being recognized by the individual.
Once those early signs and symptoms become part of daily living it is not long before they can change into a disease state, thus forcing a medical intervention.
Internal medicine, as we define it in the Western medical model of healthcare, is the study and isolation of a disease or disorder of a particular body function.
We have come to expect our doctors to ask questions, take a history and perform a physical exam.
Further, we have come to expect a diagnosis based on blood, urine, x-ray and other tests.
Our physicians will make referrals to specialists, prescribe medications or conduct surgery to combat the disease or dysfunction.
While these can all be life saving measures, they are limited in their ability to provide treatment solutions to many life altering conditions that occur prior to the discovery of an actual disease process.

This is where the Eastern medical model steps in.
In the practice of acupuncture energy medicine the practitioner is able to see and understand the core issue based on all symptoms, however "insignificant" they may feel to you.
In Eastern medical theory we believe that disease potential can be prevented by looking at the balance of energy of the entire body.
Eastern medicine does not isolate a set of symptoms and focus on one issue.
It looks at and addresses those "little" things that we attribute to age, increased or decreased activity or lack of sleep among many other signs that occur prior to disease.
It is a whole body overview and treatment that will re-balance energies.
Systemic medicine is more expansive in its' diagnostic evaluation and treatment.
This is the point where Western medicine and alternative medicine, such as acupuncture, cold lasers and body work should come together.
Our belief that the integration of all these medical options expand the scope of medicine and ultimately could provide a full spectrum with which to help people achieve their health goals and provide a healthier and cost effective health care system solution.
