Acupuncturists Without Borders

  • Military Stress Recovery Project

Photo of forest fire damage in TexasMs. Datillo has joined Acupuncturists Without Borders (AWB) and, having completed a special training program, participated in her first assignment in October 2011 in Texas to assist wildfire victims from Bastrop, Texas. Ms. Datillo received training, professional development in community-based crisis management, and helped in setting up a MASH unit. Her work focused on the latest activities of the Military Stress Recovery Project, a program available in over two dozen cities throughout the USA.

“The potential of this program is enormous. History has shown that the long-term impact of war takes a tremendous toll for decades. By providing free acupuncture treatments to veterans currently returning from war, we can play a part in preventing history from repeating itself, and by providing treatments to veterans from past wars and conflicts, we can take part in helping mend the psychological wounds of the past” (Opens new windowhttp://www.acuwithoutborders.org/).

AWB

AWB’s vision is to foster the creation of stable, peaceful global communities through its community-based acupuncture services and training which interrupt the cycles of unresolved trauma.” It provides “immediate disaster relief and recovery to communities that are in crisis resulting from disaster or human conflict. AWB is committed to creating alliances with local, community-based organizations and treating all who have been affected: survivors, first responders, emergency personnel, and other care providers.

“AWB uses community-style acupuncture to provide caring, compassionate treatment in a group setting. This model of treatment allows everyone treated to experience relief from stress and trauma together. When the entire group feels calm and quiet, hope, determination, and resiliency rises powerfully within it.”

Veterans Acupuncture Clinic (VAC) Boston-North Shore

The Veterans Acupuncture Clinic (VAC) Boston-North Shore is free, community-style acupuncture for veterans of all wars, active military, and their families.

In May 2008, a group of acupuncturists opened a free clinic to give back to the men and women that have served and continue to serve this country. Since veteran health care benefits are constantly being slashed, these women decided that their healing services could offer veterans some support. These days, military men and women need more help with post-combat stress relief than VA hospitals can currently handle. This is where Veterans Acupuncture Clinic comes in. Under the umbrella of Acupuncurists Without Borders' Military Stress and Recovery Project, the clinic saw almost 400 veterans and their family members the first year. Since then those numbers have grown. The need for military post-combat stress relief is great and VAC is here to help meet that need.

Why Acupuncture?

As with generations past, today's veterans return to civilian life and their entire family feels the effect. Seperation has already profoundly affected the veteran's relationships; the returning veterans and family members must all adjust to new problems, including emotional and financial concerns.

The overall benefits of the Veterans Acupuncture care program are clear: an improvement in the physical and emotional health of the veteran, stress reduction for the veteran and his or her spouse, improved mood and academic performance for the children, and a stronger family unit that remains and thrives in our community.

The VAC Boston-North Shore is open to veterans from World War ll, Korea, Viet Nam, Gulf, Iraq and Afghanastan.

We will be open at the Vittori-Rocci Post #54
143 Brimbal Ave.
Beverly, MA. 01915

Beginning Saturday, February 4, 2011 at 11:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. (taking our last patient at 2:30 p.m.).
